If you choose to write to one of the protesters in prison, you must also add your name and return address or your postcard will be discarded. You could add a simple note of solidarity, such as “You’re Not Alone” or “We’re With You Out Here”. Prisons are dark places where bright images and words are needed. When writing a post card (or two or three) to the government you can mention one of the following points. Remember to add your name, return address and request a reply if writing the government.

* Explain that the proposed exploration site is at the headwaters of the Mississippi River watershed in Eastern Ontario, which provides drinking water to hundreds of thousands of people and is used for recreation and tourism.

* Explain that the site is in Algonquin territory, which was never surrendered or sold to the Crown.

* Explain that time has shown that there has never been a “safe” uranium mine in the history of the industry.

* Ask what protections are in place when the government grants permits for exploration of uranium in environmentally sensitive and populated area.

* Call for support for the Citizens Inquiry into the impacts of the exploration and mining of uranium.

* Call for an environmental impact assessment before exploration begins.

* Call for a permanent moratorium of uranium mining in Ontario.

You could also write a simple slogan, such as:

* Free the protestors

* Call for a moratorium on uranium mining
